Formatted abstract
This thesis documents the design and production of the cooling system for the 2003 University of Queensland Formula SAE car.

The main focus of the project is the design and production of a successfully functioning cooling system. Included in the paper are background theory, testing of the 2002 hardware, design and construction of the 2003 system and the eventual testing and evaluation of the 2003 design.

It was found that the previous design was inadequate for the car to remain competitive. Almost all the components of the new system have been redesigned and substantial gains in cooling and overall car performance have been made.

While investigating theory and applying it where possible, I do not regard this paper as a heavily theoretical work; certain decisions have been made holding experience, observation and inference in higher stead than that of theory. The more I sought to uncover the black arts of automotive cooling system design, the further I became involved in them.

The 2003 cooling system design was a successful one that has been proven in competition. I see this thesis as an excellent tool for future Formula SAE team members with regard to future designs.
