The general geology of the area from Eumundi to Cooroy is discussed, particular emphasis being placed on the granitic rocks. The Palaeozoic rocks have suffered severe folding, whereas the later rocks have been deformed principally by faulting. The trends of deformation change from NW/SE during the Palaeozoic, to WE/ during the Mesozoic. The geology may be summarised as follows -
TERTIARY IGNEOUS ROCKS - rhyolite, trachyte, andesite,basalt.
POMONA BEDS - quartz arenite, shale.
GRANITIC ROCKS - Eerwahvale Tonalite, Mt.Cooroy Complex, Allandale Riebeckite Granite, Lakes View Granodiorite.
NORTH ARM VOLCANICS - andesite, trachyte, rhyolite, shale.
KIN KIN " PHYLLITES" - slates.
