This study is separated into four parts - The Introduction; Trends in Recreation; The Brisbane River - Non-Recreational Usage; and The Brisbane River Recreation.

PART A looks at the legal situation, defines basic terminology, comments on the value of water in our society, looks briefly at the history of the Brisbane River and examines recreation in our schools.

PART B is a study of the growth of recreation and leisure, trends in water recreation and open space standards.

PART C presents information on the Brisbane River - the catchment area and water supply, flooding in Brisbane, the new port site, river transport and water quality.

PART D examines existing water based recreation on the Brisbane River associated land based activities and problems encountered by both groups.

The final chapter explores the policy and changes that should be introduced, the general development, principles and conclusion
