Formatted Abstract/Summary
Australia is the centre of origin of both Macadamia integrifolia and Macadamia tetraphylla which originate from coastal southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales. Commercial production of macadamia takes place within and around this centre of origin in Australia. At this stage only one pathogen, Pseudocercospora macadamiae, causing husk spot, is believed to have co-evolved with macadamia while all other pathogens causing disease problems in commercial orchards today are common pathogens known from a wide range of other crop plant species. For the purpose of this paper we have grouped the diseases based on their ability to affect the fruit (husk spot, husk rot, anthracnose, and raceme blight) and diseases affecting the trunk and root system (Phytophthora trunk canker and root rot, gall canker and pink limb blight).
