...Research in mainland-China and Hong Kong has identified the need to include culture in the organization of programs for support and clinical intervention. Centering on cases from these regions, Ramsay examines accounts of peoples’ experiences with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression, and dementia. The texts studied cover internal experiences as told by people with mental illness (PWMI) and by carers of PWMI, and external encounters in the form of films portraying mental illness and dementia. The combination of accounts strengthens this book as it offers a multiverse of perspectives on the topic and provides evidence for differences and similarities in experiences shaped by cultural factors...
