Provocateur François Roche leads the French architectural studio, R&S(n), with Stephanie Lavaux. Rarely photographed, he prefers to send a mutated avatar ( a combination of his and Lavaux's) in his place. R&Sie(n)'s work is also mutated, a hybrid of speculative architecture, design fiction, futurist prediction and the best traditions of French critical theory. Roche spoke to AR about the role of authorship in design, the inherent contradictions of the architectural process, and possible future directions for the profession.

Interview by John de Manincor with Francois Roche - on authorship, the contradictions of architecture and possible future directions for the profession.
