Formatted Abstract/Summary
...It is not the '80s that seeks to foreclose on '70s pluralism, but the '80s that must themselves be seen as a continuation of this pluralism. It is not the '80s that is the retrospective truth and destiny of the '70s, but the '70s that make possible the '80s. And, perhaps as much as anything, Australian art history is today suspended between these alternatives — with the very choice between them, if not the actual choice we will make, owing everything to Taylor.
