Many people with mental illness experience a disruption in their educational attainment, which often affects their employability. Supported education is a psychiatric rehabilitation intervention designed to assist people gain a valued role as a student and eventually a worker. This chapter addresses the health ben- efits of education, work delay, barriers to education, young people and mental illness, psychiatric rehabilitation and supported education, the Choose-get-keep programme model, characteristics predicting successful outcomes, and evalua- tion/outcomes. The chapter concludes by examining the features and strategies that practitioners can employ to develop supported education programmes.
