In this millennium, as product design increased in complexity, the process of producing, distributing and managing documentation has also increased. As the task to manage all product-related information is of immense importance for the overall project success, it is important to implement a system that would allow easy management of project documentation.
This thesis will make use of a web-based product data management system (PDMS) / engineering data management system (EDMS) for students to instantly share, visualize and communicate project information between any members, lecturer and clients 24hrs a day. This thesis will also illustrate how PDM/EDMS has help in the industry and how it can also meet the needs of design students.
Qualitative method is used to fully understand the problems and needs of design students. The PDMS for student would use WebCT. WebCT is used as a course management system in the University of Queensland and is used for the first time as a web-based PDMS.
This thesis will explain in detail the features of the prototype web-based PDMS for design students and the step by step instruction manual for students. Quantitative method were used to evaluate the system.
