Synopsis

The paper presents a Newton-Raphson method for the analysis of cable net structures in which some of the members exhibit elasto-plastic behaviour. It is presumed that an initial cable net equilibrium position has been found and that further loads are applied to a portion of the net so that some member forces exceed the elastic limit of their load-deflection curve.   The paper describes a device for stabilizing the non-linear iteration procedure which is found to be greatly influenced by the behaviour of the elasto-plastic members.
