Abstract/Summary In order to establish the factors which predict student intentions to contribute towards an OpenCourseWare (OCW) site, an online questionnaire was distributed among University of Queensland (UQ) students via email. The 320 participants completed items which were based on the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and were designed to measure attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control (PBC). Measures of moral belief were also included to validate morals as a predictor for intentions to contribute. Considerations about who would benefit from an OCW site were manipulated between groups and intentions to contribute towards an OCW project and moral beliefs were compared. Overall, attitudes, subjective norms, PBC and moral beliefs explained 43.1% of the variance in students‟ intentions to contribute. Attitudes and moral beliefs were the strongest predictors accounting for 7.49% and 7.12% respectively with subjective norms accounted for 3.9%. Perceived behavioural control was not found to contribute to the explanatory model. Considerations about who would benefit from OCW were not found to influence moral beliefs or intentions to contribute. The implications for universities creating new OCW sites are discussed. Further research needs to investigate the effects of barriers on student intentions to develop and contribute and examine the determinants of faculty support.
