Abstract/Summary One finds differences and even tension in the way in which congregations worship in the new millennium. In a renaissance of worship, it is not only a matter of liturgical developments being mapped out, but traditional forms of worship are also being rediscovered. In this article, the nature, content, and meaning of worship in the new millennium will be investigated. As a case study for analysis and discussion in the article, the meaning of the group U2 for some Protestant Churches in America is investigated. Some claim that the Gospel according to Bono and Bono’s psalms have become the new voice for these Protestant churches. In this evaluation of the use of the lyrics of, amongst others, Bono and U2, as part of worship, markers are mapped out as key elements for worship in the new millennium.
