Abstract ZnO surfaces are mainly covered by two polar facets and six nonpolar facets. Due to the unique advantage of polar facets in promoting interface charge carrier transfer in ZnO-CdS heterostructures, the hydrogen evolution rate over ZnO disk-CdS nanoparticle heterostuctures is 2.8 times that of the ZnO rod-CdS nanoparticle one.
