Formatted Abstract/Summary
46 selections from 1908 and 2008 recordings of music from Lihir Island, New Ireland. The recordings Schlaginhaufen (a member of the German Navy Expedition) made on Lihir and other parts of the colony were returned to Berlin, becoming part of the world famous Berlin Phonogramm-Archiv. In 2008, Dr Kirsty Gillespie of the Australian National University began a research project on Lihir music, sponsored by mining company Lihir Gold Limited. Gillespie not only recorded songs people wanted to perform for her, she also played back the recordings made a century ago by Schlaginhaufen. The recordings are accompanied by an enlightening and accessible 24-page booklet with photos, texts, and translations of song texts.

46 tracks (63:47).
