Abstract This paper considers the theoretical effects of product-price variability upon the average profit-levels of multi-product firms and examines the influence of product-price fluctuations upon the income-levels of countries exporting products, such as primary products, the price of which is unstable. The analysis takes account of interdependence of production and shows that administrative costs apart, price stabilisation schemes may reduce the average profits of firms (farmers) and the incomes of countries exporting primary products. In the model, explored in the article, prices are supposed to be the sole source of variability.
