Anleu, Mazerolle and Presser consider the role of insurance companies and their actuarial logic in contemporary crime prevention strategies. They explore insurers' crime prevention efforts vis- -vis their policy holders and the involvement of insurance companies as partners in community crime prevention efforts. Insurers may constitute themselves as community participants in their involvement in crime prevention programs which emphasise partnerships between local communities and police. While the discourse of community tends to stress altruism and collective interests, arguably insurance companies remain primarily oriented to profit and the achievement of their own organisational goals.
