Formatted abstract The Italian double bass player and composer, Domenico Dragonetti (1763-1846) holds a significant and unique position in music history His technical skill and musical artistry as a soloist and orchestral performer on the double bass elevated him to special prominence in his own time. His compositions represent a considerable proportion of the solo bass repertoire from the early nineteenth century In this study biographical material about Dragonetti is provided, along with an account of his most significant musical achievements and performing activities.

The manuscript of Dragonetti s Solo in G for Double Bass with piano accompaniment has been edited, and the editorial procedure and an analysis of this work is also incorporated in the text. A cross-referenced thematic index of several original and mostly unpublished manuscripts by the composer is included.
