Abstract/Summary More than half the land area in the Philippines Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) is forested. Reforestation is accorded high priority by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, with support from various codes, policies and legislative acts, and has been especially effective in Bukidnon Province. Poor growth performance in plantations due to the use of low quality planting materials has led to a focus on tree improvement, including support for seed production areas and production of phenotypically and genotypically improved planting materials, and the piloting of an accreditation system for seedling nurseries.
