Abstract/Summary Genuine data analysis in which data are not just numbers but numbers in context is often at odds with the ways in which statistics is typically taught in schools. Mathematics teacher educators are faced with challenges of providing teachers with opportunities to develop instructional practices that involve genuine data analysis, in which context and numbers interweave. We propose to discuss insights from our collaboration with a group of the middle school mathematics teachers as we strove to support their statistical instructional practices.
