Abstract/Summary This session explores the social, spiritual and ecological aspects of two important Australian Rivers: the Murray River and the Brisbane River. Panellists will relay their experiences of connecting with the communities who depend upon these rivers as well as their personal experiences of engaging with the local environment. The GreenFaith Australia team will share footage and stories from their recent interfaith pilgrimage to the Southern Murray Darling Basin. Sylvie Shaw will then present on the Brisbane River and discuss the emergence of a ‘River Ethic’ as a potential approach to renewing our human-river relationship. Participants of this session will be taken on these journeys and learn about issues of sustainability, relationship and transition in these water-dependent regions. We will then invite participants to work with the relevant themes of water, community and spirituality in relation to contexts of ecological degradation.
