Formatted Abstract/Summary
In recent years, extensive work has been carried out on the integration of self assembling diblock copolymers for the fabrication of templates in lithographic applications. Diblock copolymers possess two different immiscible polymer chains that are joined covalently, which phase separate into ordered nano-structures. Depending on the relative lengths of blocks and the degree of immiscibility, periodic arrays of cylindrical, spherical or lamellar nano-domains can be achieved.

The interfacial interactions of a thin film of the PS-b-PDLA block polymers with the silicon wafer substrate was examined using surface characterisation techniques such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact angle measurements etc. and the morphology of phase separation was investigated using high resolution scanning electron microscopy.
