Abstract Global energy demand is growing which implies that many countries are consuming more fossil fuel for electricity generation and transport giving rise to issues on energy security. The recent world financial crisis, the rising fuel import costs, the fact that not all household in Pacific island countries (PICs) are having electricity, the review of energy policy in PICs have lead PICs to discuss energy security issues. This papers presents definition of energy security in Section 1. Section 2 discusses the issues that have led to discussion of energy security in PICs. Section 3 presents the threats to energy security and finally some conclusions are drawn in Section 4. © International Science Press
