Abstract Male-specific volatile components released by the banana weevil, Cosmopolites sordidus Germar, from Australia have been identified as (1S,3R,5R,7S)-1-ethyl-3,5,7-trimethyl-2,8-dioxabicyclo [3.2.1]octane and the 7R-epimer (as a minor component) by synthesis and enantioselective gas chromatography.
