Abstract Conventional pore technologies are limited in the size range of structures they can analyze by the fixed size of the pore. A novel stretchable pore which can be tuned to optimize the pore size to a particular experimental system is applied here to distinguish between nanoparticle populations of similar size and to detect DNA modification of nanoparticles.
