Abstract Arthroscopic surgery is a common procedure in Thoroughbred racehorses. The racing performance of horses that were unraced prior to surgery is poorly documented, thus owners and trainers are often reluctant to invest the time and money required to perform this surgery in unproven horses. The aim of this study was to compare the subsequent racing performance of unraced horses which had undergone arthroscopy of the intercarpal, radiocarpal or fetlock joints with that of maternal or paternal siblings.
