In Asia there has been a steady increase in the consumption of chicken meat. This increase is due to a number of factors, including, a climbing disposable income as Asian currencies appreciate and a shifting dietary trend towards the consumption of "fast food" type food products. In recent years, these factors have seen a substantial growth in the Asian chicken market.

Compared to most Asian countries, Australia has substantial comparative advantages in; the production of chicken products, in the areas of feed production, production costs, and the technology of processing chicken meat. A Marketing Research survey is designed and initiated and carried out for the Japanese market. The results are discussed with application to the development of an export industry.
