Discusses the benefits of using script analysis in conjunction with D. Capps's (1979) thematic approach to pastoral care. By blending the 2 theories, the history of the personality theme is brought to light. Through script redecision work, a milieu is then created in which personal change can take place. A variation on the theme is achieved through a process of self-confrontation aimed at breaking through parental programming. A case illustration involving a young married woman is presented.
