Many researchers such as Fayol, Kotter and Mintzberg have analysed and tried to describe the activities and tasks of management. However, Hofstede is the only one who identified national culture as an important influence on management practices.
This thesis analyses cultural influences on management behaviour and style in Australia. The Australian economy and Hofstede's five dimensions in national culture fonn a framework for describing the typical Australian manager. Australia ranks similarly in all five dimensions to England.
