Abstract/Summary Reproduction of a portrait of T.J. Ryan. The Honourable Thomas Joseph Ryan born on 1 July, 1876 near Port Fairy, Victoria. Ryan was admitted to the Queensland Bar in December, 1901 and joined the Queensland Labor Party in 1904. As an endorsed Labor candidate he won the seat of Barcoo in 1909 and retained it through his political career. T.J. Ryan was the leader of the Labor Party from 1912 - 1919. Thomas Joseph Ryan died in Barcaldine on 1 August, 1921.(Information taken from the Australian Dictionary of Biography)
