Formatted abstract
This thesis discusses the construction of a sewerage scheme for the City of Cairns. Particular reference is made to problems arising from natural conditions, including flat topography, high groundwater levels, varying and frequently poor foundations, a hot and humid climate, and the possibility of chemical action by aggressive groundwater on pipes and structures.

The relation between design principles and construction procedures to meet these problems is indicated, and construction techniques are described.
