Additional Notes Portrait of Eric Otto Schlunke, author and farmer. E. O. Schlunke was a farmer who spent all of his working life in the Riverina district of New South Wales. He was educated at the Temora area Lutheran school and then Hurlstone Agricultural High School, Summer Hill, Sydney (1922-1923). After his schooling he joined his father and brothers on Hope Vale, a 2,300 acre (931 hectare) wheat and sheep property at Reefton. He pioneered the use of contour ploughing using a chisel plough, flumes, or grassed waterways, and holding dams for rainfall effectiveness and erosion management. He wrote about his work and spoke on the Australian Broadcasting Commission's radio series the Land and its People. [Austlit}
