This study considers the price reaction of equity shares around the announcement and ex-date of rights issues. A theoretical evaluation of announcement and ex-rights date price adjustment is developed and evidence is documented that a slight negative abnormal returns are recorded at the around the announcement and positive on the ex-right day. This evidence is consistent with the studies performed in the US and UK, and can be reconciled with the Australian study.
