Formatted abstract This thesis examines the relationship between the size of target firms and the market's reaction to the announcement of a takeover offer. It was found that small firm takeover targets earn significantly greater abnormal returns when compared to larger targets. These findings appear to support the information asymmetry argument as an explanation for the existence of the size effect.
