Formatted abstract This study reviews the saving and investment in Indonesia between 1983 and 2004. The main objective this study is to investigate the determining factors of private savings and investments in Indonesia and to examine the impact of Asian Fil1ancial Crisis 1997/1998 to Indonesian economy. The cointegration analysis and error correction model (ECM) are employed to exan1ine the relationship between variables in the short and long run. The macroeconomic factors such as gross national disposable income, interest rate, real gross domestic product, inflation rate, public investments are observed to find the most influential determinants in private savings and investments in Indonesia. It is also known that Indonesia savings level and growth has been satisfactory by other countries during those periods, however the investment growth has been disappointing. By concentrating to the influential detern1ining variables, expectantly Indonesia able to addressed a priority to attain higher growth targets in the future.
