Formatted abstract
Small form factor optical drives for mobile application require high performance actuators that satisfy tight geometrical size requirements. We have designed a swing arm type actuator that allows the integration of a complete miniaturized optical pickup unit on the actuator. The performance of the actuator has been simulated by the FEM method and is compared with experimental results. Finally the manufactured actuator was used to read out a Blu-ray ROM disc.
