Abstract/Summary Whilst there is an extensive literaturr on the general risk management process and on foreign direct investments, there has been very little research into the specific nature of legal risk and its management in foreign direct investment (FDI). This study improves knowledge of FDI legal risk in two ways. Firstly it clarifies the concept of legal risk and determines what types of risks should be included in this concept. Secondly, it fills some gaps in the literature by providing a theoretical model of how foreign direct investment legal risk is managed, that is, how it is identified, assessed, treated and monitored. The study was conducted through multiple qualitative case study analysis, based on six Australian firms with significant investments in Chile.
