Abstract/Summary Accelerated sea level rise in the 21st century and beyond will result in unprecedented rates of coastal recession which will threaten $ billions worth of coastal developments and infrastructure. Therefore, we cannot continue to depend on the controversial Bruun rule for estimating coastal recession due to sea level rise. Furthermore, the emergence of risk management style coastal planning frameworks is now requiring probabilist estimates of coastal recession. This paper describes the development and application of an innovative process based, probabilistic model for the estimation of coastal recession due to sea level rise.
