Formatted Abstract/Summary Introduction: Chronic diseases are increasing at an alarming rate worldwide resulting in severe physical, psychological and emotional impairment. It is imperative, therefore, that researchers explore collaborative research practices to more effectively build knowledge for their prevention and management. This research is a piece of reflective work that examined the process of building research capacity in the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the content of three current research projects on chronic disease to inform research practice.

Conclusions: Rather than building research in chronic disease in a sequence as sole researchers, this reflective work illustrates how to simultaneously build research experience and identify enduring themes in current research content to inform cutting edge prevention projects.
