Abstract/Summary Dame Sybil Thorndike beside the tree where she hung the plaque marking the opening of the J.J. Stable Tree Theatre, The University of Queensland. Left to right: A. E. McLucas (Committee Chairman/Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar School), Dame Sybil Thorndike, Sir Lewis Casson, and Norton S. Stable (son of J.J. Stable). J.J. Stable Tree Theatre was an open aired theatre that was once located in a park near Union College carpark. Due to the carpark, this theatre was closed. It was named in honour of J. J. Stable, a former English professor at The University of Queensland.
