Abstract/Summary Mitochondrial biology connects scientific disciplines ranging from embryology to cancer and to that of infectious diseases. Indeed, disturbances in mitochondrial metabolism are now known to play a key biological role not only in the rare childhood diseases, but also have been implicated in many common diseases of ageing that include heart disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s Disease, and cognitive deficits such as dementia. This lecture will discuss the role of nutraceuticals as applied to mitochondrial biology.
