Abstract Tungkang coastline, Pingtung county (Taiwan): Tungkang (or Donggang) is a famous fishing harbour on the shores of the Taiwan Strait on the South-East of Taiwan. It was a major harbour to southern Taiwan since Chen Cheng Kung, the late Ming dynasty general who reconquered Taiwan from the Dutch. Today Tungkang is no longer renowned as a commercial port, but it remains one of Taiwan’s largest fishing harbours. This photograph was taken on 26 November 2006 about mid-afternoon. It shows the sandy coastline South of Tungkang. The mild slope beach consists of coarse black sand.
