Abstract/Summary The Biochemistry building was officially opened by Princess Alice on 8 June 1962 and later re-named in July 1978 to honour Professor John Hines. Professor Hines was the Dean of Science from 1963 to 1971 and was responsible for the early development of Biochemistry at The University of Queensland. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science in 1971 and appointed Emeritus Professor in 1972. [some information obtained from 'Honour Names Booklet', an unpublished booklet produced by Media and Information Services in 1985]
