Abstract/Summary This photograph was taken shortly after the Government House residence opened in 1862 for the Governor of the recently created state of Queensland. The first occupants were Sir George Bowen and Lady Diamantina Bowen and family. In December 1909 the residence was handed over to the newly established University of Queensland and was used by the university for various means until the 1960's.
