Formatted Abstract/Summary
Research into leadership and emotions to date has tended to concentrate in individuals, relationships, and groups. In this chapter, we argue that leadership research-like emotion research-needs to be extended to all levels of organizational analysis. In this respect, we present a five-level model of leadership and emotion in organizations, with levels comprising: (1) within-person, (2) between-person (individual differences), (3) interpersonal interactions, (4) groups, and (5) the organizational as a whole. We discuss the role of emotion in leadership at each level of the model and suggest ideas for further development and research at each of the levels.
