Abstract Engineering is related to the application of science to realworld problems. During the last three decades, however, the higher education, research and professional environments have been completely transformed by the "digital information revolution" including the growth of email and the Internet, the introduction of search engines, and the development of digital resources: e-journals, publishing databases and open access repositories. This article discusses specifically the impact of electronic publishing on engineering publications, research quality and ethics.
