Abstract Skin conditions are frequently encountered in the newborn, many of which are trivial and are transient variations of normal. The introduction of the Early Discharge Program by maternity hospitals has heightened the need for GPs to have a knowledge of common skin conditions so that appropriate advice regarding management may be given. In the main, the only advice that will be needed will be reassurance.
