Abstract By utilising its rapid corrosion reaction and controlling its degradation process through Zn and Mn alloying, purification and anodization, chemically active magnesium can be developed into a biodegradable biocompatible implant material with a specific biodegradation process and tolerable hydrogen evolution rate, which may replace current problematic biodegradable polymers in applications.
