Formatted Abstract/Summary
This text is based on an exhibition of Elmer Williams photographs titled: "Tour of paradise: American soldier in the South Pacific' curated by Prue Ahrens. (Verso)

'Quartermaster Corporal Elmer J. Williams was stationed for two years in the South Pacific during World War II. While serving the US Army he created a photo-album of his Tour of Paradise.

Based on an international exhibition,
Tour of Paradise: An American Soldier in the South Pacific features never before seen photographs of an ordinary soldier's life in the extraordinary surroundings of the South Pacific.

Edited by Prue Ahrens,
Tour of Paradise includes essays by international experts on Pacific history, race relations and war photography, and a collection of short stores by local author Mme Carmel Laubreaux on New Caledonia's `Time of the Americans'.
