Abstract Novel hollow nanoshells of Mn2O3 with controllable ultrathin shell thickness have been fabricated through layer-by-layer assembly of exfoliated MnO2 nanosheets and polyelectrolytes on polymer bead templates, followed by removal of the polymer cores via calcination.
