Additional Notes
Emerald is located in Central Queensland, 266 kilometres west of Rockhampton. The town was established in 1879 as a base for the railway line from Rockhampton to the Central West. Little
remains of Emerald’s early buildings as the town experienced major fires in 1936, 1940, 1954 and 1968. The region has a diverse industry base including coal mining, grazing, agriculture (grain and
cotton), horticulture (grapes and citrus) and gem fossicking.
